Consolidado como una de las figuras más destacadas de la actualidad, su trayectoria y singular espíritu de artista global han sido reconocido recientemente con el XXXV Premio Ojo Crítico de Radio Nacional de España de manera multidisciplinar, como director y compositor entre la tradición y la vanguardia destacando en el ámbito sinfónico, la ópera o la danza, acentuando su rigor con la música española y el flamenco en particular, así como su dimensión creativa en la poesía.
En sus próximos compromisos cabe destacar su doble debut con la ópera Bodas de sangre en el Teatro Real de Madrid, un título con el que el Teatro Real conmemora el centenario de la Generación del 27 en la temporada que celebra el 30 aniversario de su reapertura. Con este hito de Busto, estamos ante la primera vez en la historia moderna del coliseo madrileño que una misma figura lidera la creación y la dirección de un estreno mundial en su temporada lírica principal.
En su trayectoria como director sobresalen teatros y orquestas como la National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Teatro Lírico di Trieste, Opera Nacional de Albania, Maria Biesu Opera Festival, Teatro de la Maestranza, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, Taipei Opera Theater, Dutch National Opera and Ballet, Teatro Campoamor, Oviedo Filarmonía, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta de Extremadura, Teatro Villamarta de Jerez, etc.
En el terreno de la ópera, su solido oficio curtido tras colaborar estrechamente como director asistente con maestros como Maurzio Benini, Carlo Rizzi o Corrado Rovaris, entre otros, le ha valido el aplauso de crítica y público por su capacidad de dotar de emoción tanto a voces como orquesta, e imprimir a la partitura una viveza teatral extraordinaria (Scherzo-Beckmesser), destacando títulos como La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida de Verdi, La Bohème de Puccini, pasando por un repertorio español bajo un criterio de profundo conocimiento sobre su raíces creativas, con títulos que van de La vida breve de Manuel de Falla a Marina de Emilio Arrieta. Su versatilidad hace que la danza tenga una notable presencia en su carrera, trabajando desde 2019 con el Ballet Nacional de España como uno de sus principales directores invitados, la compañía Aterballetto en Italia, o el Ballet de la Ópera Nacional de Albania entre otros, con coreógrafos como Johan Inger, Rubén Olmo o Manuela Nogales.
Como compositor forma parte del catálogo de compositores de la editorial vienesa Universal Edition, siendo reconocido por la Fundación BBVA como miembro de la Red Leonardo tras recibir en la categoría Música y Ópera en 2021 su prestigiosa beca, premiado por la SGAE y AEOS dentro programa “Incentivo a la Creación: Obra sinfónica por encargo 2023”, y el primer premio “Classical Music Stars International Competition”. Destaca entre sus óperas, obras sinfónicas o ballets encargos del Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla y Lope de Vega, la Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, el Ballet Nacional de España o Genio Dance (Taipei), que hacen que su obra esté presente en importantes salas de todo el mundo como el Tokio Bunka Kaikan Hall, Tel Aviv Opera House o New York City Center.
Con una completa formación en clásico-contemporánea en España, Suiza, Inglaterra o Italia, este joven artista natural y residente de Los Palacios, Sevilla, desarrolla como artista hacia el flamenco una labor singularísima desde el estudio, la investigación y la experiencia con artistas como Rafael Riqueni, Rafaela Carrasco, Dani de Morón, Patricia Guerrero, Miguel Ortega, Javier Barón o El Turry entre otros, colaborando con las principales citas del universo jondo como son la Bienal de Sevilla, Festival de Jerez o Suma flamenca de Madrid. Actualmente, y tras culminar con matrícula de honor y premio extraordinario TFM del Master Interuniversitario en Investigación y Análisis del Flamenco, desarrolla un doctorado sobre “El flamenco en la ópera como necesidad creativa”.

Originally from Los Palacios y Villafranca (Seville, Spain), he has recently been awarded the prestigious Fundación BBVA Becas Red Leonardo 2021 in the area of Music and Opera, he is holding with idealistic determination and success both career as both a conductor and a composer, and he is often seen as one of the young spanish artist who has most widely projec tion both inside Spain and worldwide in the field of Opera, Symphony and Dance, he is currently highlighting as one of the main guest directors of the Spanish National Ballet. Maestro Busto is considered one of the composer and conductor with the greatest criteria and experience in the flamenco.
His most recent commitments as a conductor has included his debut in Asia, where he opened the 2020-2021 season at the Taiwan National Opera House and conducted the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, his debut at Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2021, his work as the conductor of La Traviata de G. Verdi at the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla (2022), La Bohème de G. Puccini en el María Biesu Interntaciona Opera Festival (2022), his debut in the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía de Valencia and the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana in 2022, his work at the Teatro Lírico Nacional de “La Zarzuela” conducting the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid as well as working as the musical director of the Spanish National Ballet, his debut with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada in concert 2022, his debut with the Orquesta Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá 2023, his work as director for the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza Aterballetto, and, last but by no means least, multiple collaborations with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano or the Orquesta de Extremadura.
Manuel Busto’s artistic career has continued to develop after gaining experience wor king as assistant director for important maestros such as Maurizio Benini, Carlo Rizzi or Cristobal Soler, and after studying in various countries such as Italy (Academia Chigia na with Gelmetti, Siena, Opera Verona with J. Kalmar), Switzerland (Lucerna Festival Academy with B. Haytink), the United Kingdom (London) and in Spain (C.S.M. Sevilla or with Noman Milanes and A. Romero-Ramirez).
He has worked as a conductor with important orchestras and theatres, of which the most important are the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Orquesta de la Academia Baremboim-Said, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (ROSS), the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, the Orquesta de Extremadura, the BBC London Symphony Orchestra, the Dutch National Opera And Ballet, the Netherlands Philarmonic Orchestra, the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla, the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía, the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Taiwan National Opera, the Taipei Opera Company, the Teatro Lirico di Trieste, the Moldova National Opera and Ballet, the Maria Biesu Opera Festival, he National Theater of Opera and Ballet of Albania, the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, the Teatro Lírico Nacional de La Zarzuela, the Orquesta Solistas de Londres, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Brasov, the Orchestra della fondazione Bulgaria Classic, the Orquesta de Cámara de l’Arena de Verona, etc.
Manuel Busto’s career as a composer has been given a big boost in recent years. He is a composer of the viennese publisher Universal Edition from 2021 and being selected by the BBVA Foundation to receive one of the most prestigious awards of a creative nature in Spain, the Fundación BBVA Becas Red Leonardo 2021, in the areas of Music and Opera has been particularly important as it has brought attention to his creation of his own distinctive intertextual and crossdisciplinary language which combines classical, contemporary and flamenco elements. Manuel Busto received the Premio Extraordinario Fin de Master de la Universidad de Huelva 2020 for his creative research work on this language, and he is continuing his work in this field with a doctorate.
His most recent performances include the opera La mujer tigre at the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla and the Teatro Lope de Vega with the premiere in March 2021 (which included a soprano, cantor flamenco y bailaora flamenco, etc.), the symphony orchestra works Invocación Bolera and Jauleña for the Ballet Nacional de España, currently on tour both within Spain and worldwide (Greece, Mexico, Russia, Colombia, etc.), and also the dramatic ballet La Bella Otero by choreographer Rubén Olmo which premiered at the Teatro de la Zarzuela with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid. Other recent and relevant works include Jaleo´s Bright for the Belgian chamber orchestra group Solar Dúo, his first chamber opera Monólogo a 2: existencia for the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Córdoba (by the duo Lisus and Nati Villar), his collaboration with the Swedish choreographer Johan Inger and the Fondazio ne Nazionale della Danza Aterballetto in worldwide tour (Germany, Italy, France, Hun gary, etc.), or L’Apache’s for the Gran Canaria International Saxophone Competition 2021.
It is also important to note his literary works, of which the most important are his publi cation of the poem books Cuaderno sonoro by Ediciones Pangea and Sombras en la luz, and his librettos, articles and talks written for various magazines and institutions.
His compositions have been performed by groups such as the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Orquesta de Cámara de la ROSS, the Orquesta y Coro Joven de Andalucía, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Extremadura, the Orquesta de la Academia Baremboim-Said, the Ensemble del Consevatorire Boulog ne-Billancourt de París, the Orquesta Bética de Cámara y Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, the Dúo Lisus, etc. and in theatres such as the Teatro Lírico Nacional or the Teatro de la Maestranza, San Petersburgo Open Dance, Palau de Les Arts, the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Córdoba, the Teatro Villamarta de Jerez, etc. which have then been broadcast on RTVE or RTVA.
Last but by no means least, it is important to mention his work in the world of contemporary dance and flamenco for important figures such as Rubén Olmo, Fernando Romero or Manuela Nogales, and he has been invited to attend the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla on various occasions with important figures from the flamenco world such as Rafael Riqueni, Patricia Guerreo o Rafaela Carrasco.
